Sirovasti

Shirovasti is an ayurvedic therapy or procedure in which outer area of head is covered by a leather cap keeping hollow inside to put oil in it for a certain period in such a way that oil should not be leaked out.  

Elakizhi

A type of therapeutic massage done with warm medicated oil and pottali made of leaves (herbal poultice). Pottali is prepared with herbal powders and fresh herbal leaves.

Kativasti

The retention of warm medicated oil in kati by making a circular wall made of dough is called as Kati basti. The temperature of the oil is maintained by replacing the warm oil every 10 minutes.

Sirodhara

The pouring of the warm medicated oil on the forehead from a specific height for a specific period of time in a continuous stream is called as Shirodhara. Shirodhara help to relives stress and strain and also in the management of various diseases.

Special OP (Marma & Ortho clinical)  

A special outpatient department is functional at Amrita Ayurveda Medical College steered by eminent Ayurveda physicians with repute in manifold ayurvedic healing practices. This unit offers patients with an alternative and holistic path to healing, incorporating authentic Ayurveda therapies including Marma chikitsa which in turn aids patients to recoup to a healthy state from critical conditions.   

This unit is functional on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The special OPD focuses on providing treatment of existing health challenges including

  • Chronic neurological disorders and rehabilitative care

Kayachitiksa

Kayachikitsa is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda which is concerned with various somatic and psychosomatic diseases. It deals with the principles and methods of treatment of diseases afflicting the entire body. It is directed towards the correction of Agni (metabolic functioning) as the improper functioning of Agni is the root cause of all imbalances in the body.  
Since the inception of the institution in 2004, this department is practicing ancient ways of personalized cure, complementing the accurate diagnosis and treatment regarding the Prakruti (physical constitution), Desa (habitat), Kala (season), Satwa (mental strength), Satmya (habituation), Agni (power of digestion), Bala (strength) and Vaya (age) of the patient.

Shalya Tantra

Shalakya Tantra (Ophthalmology and ENT)

Specialists in Shalakya Tantra handle cases related to Ophthalmology, ENT and Dentistry. Prasooti Tantra & Streeroga (Gynecology and Obstetrics)

Koumarabhritya (Pediatric care)

The branch of Kaumarabhritya deals with every aspect of child rearing including nutritional care, proper growth and development, social and emotional aspects of a child’s wellbeing. Care for babies from their birth to 16 years are imparted in the Department’s OP facility by providing routine health care to children, improving their immunity and school performance. The department deals with all childhood diseases including Fever, Cough, Asthma, Recurrent infections, Abdominal pain, Diarrhoea, Worm infestation, Anaemia, Underweight, Obesity, Skin diseases etc. with special thrust to developmental and behavioral disorders including Cerebral palsy, Autism, ADHD, Down’s syndrome, Mental retardation etc.    More

Panchakarma

Swedana (Steam Bath), 15 Minutes

Sweda also called sudation therapy is done by using special herbs specific to the ailments of the person to be treated. It opens the pores and flushes and cleanses the system through the skin. It also stimulates digestion and metabolism. Its effect is enhanced when taken after Abhyanga. Poultices of herbs, rice, lemon, sand or steam of specific herbs are used as a part of this process.
