Swami Sankaramritananda Puri


Dean and Head of the School of Ayurveda

Swami Sankaramritananda Puri is a senior disciple of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, an eminent Ayurvedic physician, academic administrator, teacher, and scholar of Indian philosophy. He currently serves as the Dean and Head of the School of Ayurveda at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and is a Professor in the Department of Kayachikitsa. He also oversees the academic and clinical activities of the Amrita School of Ayurveda. 

Educational Qualifications

  • BAMS – University of Madras (1986) 
  • MD (Kayachikitsa) – University of Kerala (1991) 

Spiritual Journey

  • Joined the Mata Amritanandamayi Math in 1991 as a senior disciple of Amma. 
  • Actively participates in the Math’s spiritual, educational, and humanitarian initiatives. 
  • Has been entrusted with the responsibility of the Madurai Brahmasthanam. 

Academic and Professional Career

  • Joined Amrita School of Ayurveda as Assistant Professor in 2004. 
  • Promoted to Associate Professor in 2009. 
  • Became Professor in 2014. 
  • Appointed Principal in 2019 and now serves as Dean & Head of School. 
  • Leads academic development, clinical services, research, and institutional growth of the School of Ayurveda.

Research and Leadership

  • Principal Investigator for the Ayurcel project sponsored by the Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth. 
  • Has organized and delivered numerous national and international seminars, workshops, and academic programs in Ayurveda. 

International Contributions

Swami Sankaramritananda Puri has travelled to Germany, Switzerland, and Spain to promote Ayurveda, Indian philosophy, and holistic healthcare through lectures, workshops, and educational programs. 

Contributions to Spiritual Literature

Apart from Ayurveda, his major interests include:

  • Bhagavad Gita 
  • Lalita Sahasranama
  • Soundarya Lahari 

His acclaimed discourse series on Lalita Sahasranama has been telecast on Amrita TV for several years, with approximately 900 episodes, making complex spiritual concepts accessible to a wide audience.
