The Integrative Specialty clinics managed by Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda aims to provide an evidence based and person-centered approach to prevention and management of diseases as well as promotion of health. The goal of Integrative Medicine is to address the human being in totality and establish harmony of body, mind and self, echoing the statement – “The whole is more than the sum of its parts”.
Ayurveda treatment protocols are formulated to address unmet needs of patients suffering from a wide range of chronic diseases. The treatments aim to complement and supplement conventional medical care where possible and also to offer standalone Ayurveda interventions.
The treatment prescription includes counselling, lifestyle modification, dietary advice, internal medications, manual therapies and body work techniques. To avoid herb drug interactions, internal medicines are prescribed after a detailed study of the allopathic medicines being taken by the patient.
Some of the diseases where integrative approaches are beneficial include musculoskeletal diseases like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, neurological diseases like Parkinson’s disease, gastrointestinal diseases like fatty liver, hyperacidity, skin diseases like eczema, psoriasis, respiratory diseases like bronchial asthma, bronchitis, palliative care for cancer and so on. The benefits from the integrative treatments range from improvements in quality of life to disease modifying effects.
A team of physicians qualified in Ayurveda are available for clinical consultation on specific days of the week.
Multiple Sclerosis
Diagnosis of the disease is first confirmed by examination of medical records and if found necessary, physical assessment by the Neurologist. After specific diagnosis, the most suitable integrated treatment protocol will be advised by the panel of Ayurvedic physicians and Neurologists.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
After careful assessment of laboratory, radiological and clinical findings, the diagnosis will be confirmed and the line of management will be suggested by the panel of Ayurvedic physicians and Rheumatologists.
The Amrita Integrative Medicine Virtual Clinic (AIM-VC)
The Amrita Integrative Medicine Virtual Clinic (AIM-VC) is an online interface for preliminary screening of patients suffering from or suspected to be suffering from Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. The aim of the virtual clinic is to facilitate informed decision making with an integrative approach in consultation with experts from modern medicine and Ayurveda. The virtual clinic offers a pre consultation screening and evaluation for patients facing challenges in diagnostic and treatment decision making. It will provide guidance regarding proper diagnostic procedures and treatment options to get the best possible outcomes from modern medicine and Ayurveda for the three diseases – Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is important to understand that the virtual clinic will only provide guidance for further consultation and point to the best treatment plan from an integrative medicine perspective. The virtual clinic will not prescribe any medications or treatment. Treatments will be prescribed only after live consultations with the expert clinicians.
Cancer
The panel of Ayurvedic Physicians and Oncologists will review the medical records and suggest the best possible protocol for integrative care depending on the type of cancer and the stage of its development.
